Show 8 Die In Flood; Flany Flee lltaes DAWSON CREEK, B. C, March 27 (V.V.) Ranching families evacuated their homes in this area today to get out of the way of flood waters of the Pine and Murray rivers that drowned eight persons Saturday. All lowlands in the district were threatened with inundation when an ice jam at the confluence of the rivers goes out. Those drowned were so far identified only as "the Warrens" and included the father and mother, moth-er, three children and three grandchildren. grand-children. Only the body of one woman was recovered. Released by warm weather the ice packs smashed together and piled up at the juncture where both streams flow north to the peace river, The roar could be heard for miles. Settlers fled to higher ground as the waters spread rapidly over an 80-mile area north. Meagre reports reaching here indicated the Warrens were trapped trap-ped without warning. All telegraph tele-graph and telephone communication communica-tion in the immediate area was down. |
