Show STANDARD OIL IS rlJUIDS Great Corporation Makes Purchase of Ten Cars for Use of Officials. "Whether the Oakland has Inspired the respect of Standard Oil officials because it makes poor customers on account of Its gasoline economy, or whether it is just J all-around performance, is not known, j but the fact is the Standard Oil company t has just recently purchased the -first of a j fleet of ten Oaklands for use of officials, according to word recently received by ' Fred Sharman, manager of the Sharman ! Automobile company, distributor for Oak- j land cars. j "Of course, it is highly probable tliat j the demonstration was not made to John j D. personally." remarked Mr. Sharman. "but nevertheless the fact that the Stand- ' ard Oil company is so satisfied with Oak- ) land performance as to order a flee: of t ten shows that it must have merits which attract some pretty big men. "I am inclined to believe that the purchasing pur-chasing agent of the Standard Oil was attracted to the Oakland because it isn't responsible for nearly as heavy a demand for gasoline and oil important products of the big oil company. The Oakland, you know, will do from twenty to twenty-five twenty-five miles on a gallon of gasoline like a top, and that isn't helping Standard Oil dividends nearly as much as other cars that might be mentioned. "Now, economy inspires respect, even in the hearts of persons to whom the demonstration dem-onstration of economy isn't particularly welcome, and that may well be the reason rea-son why the Oakland won the admiration of the Standard Oil company's purchasing purchas-ing ayent and led to the big order." |
