Miss Williams's name will be familiar to many New Yorkers as a welfare worker. work-er. She is now with the American Red Cross and was one of the twelve women wom-en chosen to remain behind when the others were hustled out of Omsk by the American ambassador to Japan, Roland S. Morris, to escape a possible Bolshevik Invasion. The Russian was attempting to climb aboard a car in a refugee train in which were several girls. The girls were trying try-ing to shut the car door against him when Miss Williams appeared and grapple grap-ple d with the intruder. She managed to land two blows on his jaw and then they rolled together down an embankment. As they arose she gave him another, which put him out. |
