Show STORMS DELAYING ROCHESTER work Hindered Development Will Be Resumed as Soon as Weather Will Permit. Special to The Tribune. ROCHESTER, Nev.. Feb. 21. Severe storms during the past few days have somewhat handicapped practically all mining min-ing operations throughout the Rochester district, but as soon as the effects of the storm are over the usual energetic activities ac-tivities will again prevail. More or less trouble has been experi-encedon experi-encedon the lines of the Nevada Valleys Power company, causing temporary shutdowns shut-downs of power plants at the big mines, and the Nevada Short Line railroad, which transports ore from the Friedman tunnel of the Rochester Mines company to its mill, Is again blockaded, necessitating necessi-tating suspension of milling operations by that company. According to reports available avail-able here, the storm is general throughout through-out the west, and other districts are likewise like-wise handicapped. Aside from the temporary effects of the storm, the mines are in splendid condition, con-dition, with good headway being made in production and the development of greater showings of ore. Large investments invest-ments or new capital have recently been made and new and important projects launched, which, coupled with the higher price of silver, has resulted in greatly increased mining activities and general interest in the mining resources of this district. The Nenzel Crown Point company has been pushing the Pitt-Xenzel tunnel ahead beyond the second sulphide vein that was struck ten days ago near the 1700-foot point in the tunnel. The heading head-ing is now In hard rhyolite, but other veins are expected to soon be reached as the tunnel progresses. A 300-foot raise will be started within the near future to connect with the main Crown Point workings work-ings which open to the surface on the American canyon slope of Nenzel hill. Drifting is now in progress on the Zero vein, which was recently cut by the Crown Point tunnel, showing twelve feet of good commercial ore at the place of intersection. Good values have continued contin-ued in the drift and it is apparent that this vein will be very productive. Drifting Drift-ing is also in progress on several other veins that show good ore In these workings. |
