More than sixty of the protesting property prop-erty owners, a majority of them women, were in the city building when the commissioners com-missioners arrived at their decision. The situation was often dramatic dra-matic and George Browning, who was able to gain the floor in spite of what Mayor Heywood might have wished, brought tears to the eyes of manv present pres-ent when he said he realized the' situation situa-tion facing some of the poor people of the district. He closed his statement with a desire to be counted in on his part of the expense in taking the matter into the courts. Mayor Heywood left the hall immediately imme-diately upon adjournment of the meeting, meet-ing, but Commissioner Jones remained and was submitted to a ra p id f i re of i ritieism from all sides. Through Mrs. Mary Geiger. their spokesman, the protectants pro-tectants present served notice that action would be taken in the district court at once -to prevent the commissioners from proceeding with their plans. |
