Y J E the American league and created the possibility of a St. Louis club "horu- IF the St. Louis Brownies can win the American league pennant they will be rewarded with probably a greater share of money than any heretofore hereto-fore baseball champion team. The recent success of the Brownies when they arose from the obscurity of seventh place to a pennant contender by wining win-ing about 90 per cent of their games so aroused the business men of St. Louis that a purse of $50,1)00 is now being raised to present to the club if thev win the American league title. St. Louis is baseball crazy, and before be-fore the Browns went cast for their lust long trip the daily attendance in St. Louis ran close to IS, 000 per game. On Saturdays and Sundays tho gates had to be closed long before game time. If the Browns should happen to win the .jO,000 along with their world's' series share of the receipts 'it would give the players a" most tidy sum for a long winter's vacation. They would bo pulling down more coin than any other blue-ribbou performers. |
