Show POPE PROTESTS AGAINST SEIZURE OF PALACE IN ROME BERLIN, Sept. 2, via wireless to Say-ville. Say-ville. Pope Benedict, according to the VosMscho Zeitunp, has formally protested against the seizure by ihe Italian government govern-ment of the ancient palace of the Republic Re-public of Venice, the Palazzo di Venezia in Rome. The palace was being used by the Austro-Hungarian embassador accredited ac-credited to the Holy See. A decree issued by ttte Italian government govern-ment on August 27 said the palace was confiscated as a measure of reprisal for "abominable violations of international law and devastation of monuments and buildings In Venice without any military motives." The palace was given by Pope Clement VIII to Venice and remained in possession posses-sion of the republic until Its fall, when it passed to the emperor of Austria. |
