The list of events for boys will include in-clude a fifty-yard run, which will be held in September; standing broad jump, to be held in October, and pull-up, which is scheduled for November. The girls' events follow: Potato race, to be held in September; basketball throwing for October, and balancing for December. In the broad jump, the pull-up, basketball bask-etball throwing and potato race the individual in-dividual records will be added and the total divided by tho number of participants partici-pants in each class. Tho class record in the fifty-yard dash will be determined by striking an average in a similar manlier. man-lier. In balancing the number in each class who carry out the tests successfully success-fully will be divided by the number participating. Children in all grades above the third will participate. The final tests in the various events will be made on tho following dates: Fifty-yard dash, Thursday, October 5; standing broad jump, Thursdav, November Novem-ber 2; pull-up, Wednesdav, November 29; potato race, Friday, October 6; basketball bas-ketball throwing, Friday, November 3; balancing. Friday, December 8. Instructions concerning the proper way to carry out the events and suggestion sug-gestion to the boys and girls for practice prac-tice are given by the physical education educa-tion department. The schools which wish to enter for the baseball and basketball games must do so before September 8. There will be four divisions: Girls' junior baseball base-ball for the fifth and sixth grades; girls' senior baseball for the seventh and eighth grades; bovs ' junior basketball bas-ketball for the fifth and sixth grades, and boys' senior basketball by the seventh sev-enth and eighth grades. The'principals of the schools should make application for entry to the leagues. A departure from the ordinary rules will be made in basketball games. For junior league games there will be three periods of play, of seven minutes each, with five minutes' rest between. Each of the three periods in the senior league will be for ten minutes, with five-minute intermissions. The pupils must have good records in deportment and application before they play in the games. Pennants will be given to winning teams and to those showing the best spirit' of sportsmanship. |
