Show DIE iLLI CMS: ESTI1M 191S According to Studebaker Officials, Year's Sales Exceed Ex-ceed All Others. Interesting facts and figures on the automobile industry have been compiled by the Studebaker corporation, and are announced through L. J. Oilier, vice president and director of sales. "The output of automobiles for this year is estimated at 1,000,1100 cars," says Oilier. "That is more than ever before were produced in any one year. Yet the number does not ook so' stupendous stu-pendous when we consider tiie possible market. "The average value of the 7,000,000 farms in this country is $(ioOO. The owners of 1,000,000 of' these farms have automobiles. At least 3,000,000, or one-half one-half of the remaining farm owners who do not drive cars are good prospects. "Of the 5.000,000 people in the cities who, according to a well-known authority au-thority in statistics, are earning more than $1200 a year, J,50n.o00 of these people own automobiles. At least 2,500,-000 2,500,-000 of the remaining 3,500,000 are good prospects for a car. "That makes 3,000,000 farmers and 2,500,000 city people who are prospects for new cars that is, first time prospects pros-pects or a total of 5,500,000 as compared com-pared with a contemplated production of only 1,000,000 cars from the factories in the United States this year. "From these figures it ' might seem that 1,000.000 cars a year for five years would easily supply these 5,500.000' people peo-ple who are prospects for their first cars. But such will not be tho case, for it must be remembered that an ever-increasing percentage of the cars built each year go to those who already own cars, so that the supply available for new owners will annually show a shortage." |
