A single by Shinn to tho infield enabled him to score, an Rader overthrew first base; scoring Quinlan, Shinn remaining on first. Brief rued to Wilhoit. A timely Mingle by Ryan sent Shinn to third and Evan hiui-, self made second -on the throw-fn. With the two on bases waiting to score, tied-eon tied-eon swung ou a low one, sending it to left and the Byan-Shiuu combination crossed the plate. Gedeon made second, sec-ond, but was left on base, as Orr went out, Purtell to Risberg, and Halliuan went out bv the same route. Risherg doubled in the seventh, but was left on base, and neither side scored in the remainder of the game. The second game was even more of a pitchers ' duel, Munsell hurling for Salt Lake and Chech for the Vernons. Quinlan 's double' in the sixth was the preliminary tu Salt Lake's first run. Ryan 's single brought him home. The score was quickly tied up, as Vernon Ver-non in their half also scored a run on Kane's double and Wilhoit 's single. The winning run came in the eighth on a single by Ryan, a steal and" an error by Wilhoit, ' when the latter dropped Gedeon 's line fly. Vernon was unable to connect in the remainder of the game. The contest was over as the darkness was beginning begin-ning to gather. |
