Show SPORT AT GRANITE IS PROMISING WELL Football at Granite wl start In earnest ear-nest this week. With but two old men back around whom to build his team. Coach Wid Ashton will devote all hJs time to the new material, or" whioh the majority ma-jority are freshmen. Ed Smith and Ed Howells are the onlv-1914 onlv-1914 letter men on this year's squad. The new material appears to be a heavy bunch, and with his patience, Ashton mav be depended upon to bring out a atrons team when the season starts. Howells will probably do the kicking again this year, and although not a sensational sen-sational punter, he Is consistent and kicks fairly well. He will be used at tackle this year instead of at guard, where he worked last season. Smith will again play one of the ends. Coach Ashton thinks Gardner, who played sub center last year, will be able to hold down that position as a regular this season. Bill Staten, who was declared Ineligible Ineligi-ble last spring because of "over-age," will probably not be permitted to play. He was elected to be captain of the team and his loss will he keenly felt. Ashton said last night that Staten would assist In the coaching if not allowed to play. Granite lost T riorum, Carlson, Riches, Hamilton, Peterson. Hart, Matthews, Maukey and Hintze through graduation. |
