Show SET CLOCK BftCK AN HOUR, IS HIS MICE President of "More Daylight Day-light Club" Is Visitor in Salt Lake. "Set fcbe clock back an honr." This is the advice of William T. Rad-cliffe Rad-cliffe of Detroit, president of the "More Daylight club" of the Michigan metropolis metrop-olis and national propagandist of the theorj' that it is better to gain an hour in the morning at work in order to spend it, at will, in the afternoon. Mr: Eadcliffe spends part of his year in travel. He is an officer of the D. M. Perry seed house of Detroit, and his duties bring him west once a year, during dur-ing which time he utilizes all his spare time in promulgating the Detroit idea of saving an hour a day. As Mr. Radcliffe explained at the Hotel Utah yesterday, the plan has been adopted by the cities of Detroit and Cleveland, but it needs the indorsement of more cities before it can become the national movement which is the hope of its sponsors. "Set back the clock an hour and save an hour," is the way Mr. Radcliffe glibly epitomizes the object of the "More Daylight" club. Mr. Radcliffe came to Salt Lake in the interest of his seed house, but he succeeded in interesting E. E. Rich and other local seed and milling men in the wisdom of setting back the clock an hour. "It is very simple," said Mr. Radcliffe Rad-cliffe at the Hotel Utah last night, "yet it seems hard for some people to understand under-stand it. The clock is set back an hour at midnight. Everyone gets up at the same hour and quits work at the same hour, et they have an extra hour at the end of the day. In other words, we utilize one hour more of daylight in business and spend the additional evening even-ing time to ourselves." This is how it worked out in Detroit: The clock was set back an hour, after a fight over the ordinance. When thai ordinance fight was won, every clock in the city of Detroit wan set ahead an hour. When i o 'clock in the morning came, it was in reality n o'clock. On the other hand, the workers quit at the regular time in the evening, which was in realitv an hour ahead of the ordinary time, 'the business world had gained a daylight hour, and nobody in Detroit noticed It, The idea took so well that the city of Cleveland took it up. and now Mr. Radcliffe and other enthusiasts from Detroit and Cleveland are hopeful that every other city in the United States will follow suit. |
