Show HOVER IAD IS I ASSURED FICT Committee in Charge of Finances Fi-nances Is Well Pleased With Responses. t MEANS MUCH TO CITY Subscriptions Are Liberal and Sufficient Money Will Soon Be on Hand. With the first week pasBed In soliciting solicit-ing funds for the Wendover route, the committee in charge of the work rpports that it is more than pleased with the progress made. It was the intention of the committee to publish a list of the subscribers to thiB fuud, but after going over the matter last evening it was decided de-cided to postpone this action until some of the larger subscriptions have been secured. Several firms must take the matter up with the heads of the business busi-ness before giving a definite" answer as to what they will do, and this has delayed de-layed several of the larger subscriptions. subscrip-tions. However, the committee wishes "it understood un-derstood that it has been successful. This is especially true of the $100 subscriptions, sub-scriptions, and it is expected that considerably con-siderably more than 100 of these will be orj hand. Special Contribution. Several- firms are giving $250 each, and others are going still higher, in fact, all the work so far has been done among the business houses, as the committee com-mittee has not had time to go after individuals who are in sympathy with any movement which means a bigger Salt Lake. These subscriptions will swell the totals considerably. So far, there has not been an- sentiment, senti-ment, developed against the Wendover route in Salt Lake. Some towns outside out-side of Salt Lake, which will be affected by the building of the Wendover route, have had much to- say, but this was expected, but it is only natural that every cpjnmunity should look after its own interests. This is the reason Salt Lake is building the Wendover route. Salt Lake got a fair idea , of what tourist travel means by the thousands of cars which passed through the city this year. When it is known Salt Lake missed thousands more, it can be readily seen that the effort to build a road which will bring all to Salt Lake is a worthy one. Not only will Salt Lake be bene fited, but the tourists will be pleased, because all wish to visit Salt Lake, and will do so if not warned away or Bhown another route which they believe is better. bet-ter. Will Settle Controversy. When the Wendover link is built it will be impossible to mislead the tourist any longer, and Salt Lake will come into its own. The executive committee, headed by S. D. Evans, has announced that it will see to it that every dollar collected ia actually spent on tfie road. It will not be wasted in extravagant salaries, or in building a highway which will not stand up after it is built. This matter will be attended to by competent engineers, en-gineers, who understand road building, and who will take pride in the Wendover Wen-dover route after it is built. The finance committee will be out again this week, and conclude a lot of work already begun in the matter of raising funds. |
