Show GERMAN OFFICIALS WILL VISIT MEXICO Mystery Surrounds Proposed Pro-posed Trip of Von Hatz-feldt Hatz-feldt and Von Papen. SAN FRANCISCO, Sept. 25. Captain Cap-tain Franz von Papen, military attache of the German embassy at Washington, D. C, and Prince von Hatzfcldt, who are visiting this city, will leave next Tuesday for Mexico, it was announced today. Both men maintain silence as to their exact destination and the object ob-ject of their visit to the southern republic. re-public. Captain von Papen in a statement issued is-sued yesterday, denied that he referred ; in a private letter to Americans as "idiotic Yankees." He said the phrase was used in connection with reference to a certain eastern newspaper. WASHINGTON, Sfpt. 25. There are no officials of the German embassy in the city to explain why Captain vou Papen and Prince TTatzfeldt are going to Mexico. Ever since Captain von Papen became involved in the incident which led to President Wilson's request for the recall of Dr. Dumba, the Austrian Aus-trian embassador, it has been intimated in official quarters that the captain's offense was no less serious than the embassador's, em-bassador's, and that some similar action might be taken in his case. von Papen is also assigned by the German government as military attache to its legation in Mexico. aDd he might w ith propriety pay a visit to Mexico OiW. Prince Hatzfcldt has no connection connec-tion with the Mexican legation, but i3 n close personal friend of Captain von Papen. Officials learned of the military attache at-tache 's impending departure without comment, but with some interest.
