Joseph Mantle of Taylorsvillo, who was struck b' a Donver & Rio Grande cngino at a railroad crossing in Murray early yestardav morning, was roported last night as having small chanco for recovery. The engine, to which a caboose was attached, was being driven to Midvale. Engineer Prunkcuncld and Conductor Britton immediately put Mnntlo abourd tho cabooso and brought him to Salt Lake, lie was taken to St. Mark's hospital. Ho was hurled several feet when ho was struck and it is thought his skull was fractured at tho base. Praukonfield and Britton explainod in a report to Bryce P. Gibbs, claim agent of tho road, that thoy wero proceeding at a moderate rato of speed. Whon Mantle was scon to drive on tho tracks it was impossible, according to Prankenfiold. to stop the engine. Mr. Mantle has a wife and family living at Taylorsvillo. |
