Tho roport of tho committee on resolutions, which was appointod by tho farmers in attendanco atUho "Roundup," was presented this aftornoon and mot with hearty approval. ap-proval. Tho need of rural banks was sot forth and thoir establishment recommended; rec-ommended; the work of tho Utah Fruitgrowers' association and tho farm demonstrators was commondod. nnd tho marketing of inferior products was condemned. Tho report in full follows; Wc rocognlzo that one of tho greatest needs of tho farmers of Utah Is aotne form of rural banka, In order or-der that the farmers may obtain money, oithor through their own cooperation co-operation or from outside sources, at a reasonable rato of InterosL At tlt present, farm loans cannot ho obtained ob-tained In tho state for less than 8 to 10 per cont. In Homo cases farmors farm-ors havo been obliged to pay 10 per cent for a period of ten years and the loan is not payable before tbo expiration of this timo unless a bonus has been paid. Local banka havo boon unable to loan for a longer period than thrc to six months at a rato of Interest varying from S to to 10 per cent. Thia condition baa retarded tho growth and development develop-ment of our stato to a great extent. ex-tent. Want Rural Banks. Bo it therefore resolved. That wo urge our congressional representatives representa-tives at Washington to uso their bent efforts to Gccuro passage of a federal law which will establish rural banks under fcdoral control, based upon the principle that bonds may be lsaucd and sold undor federal protection, pro-tection, which bonds shall be secured by farm mortgao?. We recognlzo tho effective work of tho Utah Fruitgrowers' association during tho past year. Bo It therefore resolved, That wo urgo tho fruitgrowers of the state of Utah to Investigate and to help establish this genuine co-operative work. Wo recognlzo tho great value of tho work of tho county farm demonstrators demonstra-tors to the farmors of our state. Wo believe this a most effective way to cducato the farmer, by demonstrating to him on tho farm his mistakes, by protecting him from loss, by urging him to better and moro efficient work. For Advancement. Bo it Lhercforo resolved, That wo strongly recommend a continuation and enlargement of this work lo such an extent that ovory farmer In tho state may come In personal contact with tho farm demonstrator. Wo further fur-ther commend the work of tho Agricultural Agri-cultural extension department In Its effort to establish co-operatlon among the farmers of our stato, and wo pledge ourselves to give this department depart-ment our assistance and support, believing be-lieving as wo do that our future welfare wel-fare depends largely upon intelligent co-operation work. Wo recognlzo that In tho past the fanners of the state of Utah havo done great Injury to our markets, both local and farm, by not properly standardizing their products, by shipping ship-ping Inferior articles as first-class. Be It therefore resolved, That wo condemn In the strongest terms such practice and pledge ourselves to use every effort to correct this condition and carefully guard and protect the reputation of all products raised In Utah. Be It therefore resolved. That It is the sense of this Farmers' Roundup Round-up that wo recommend that the farmers of the stato of Utah Investigate Investi-gate tho conditions as affecting these problems as they exist today In the state of Utah, with a view that an Intelligent public opinion may be formed regarding those questions. |
