WASHINGTON, Jan. 31. Winding up a week of consideration of the ad- ministration's nnti-truBt programme, members of committees of tlie house ' and senate predicted today that the bills suggested in President "Wilson's ; message would be ready for congress J before March 1. Two Important Matters. ! Besides perfecting the interstate trado I commission bill and drafting tentative i measures designed to supplement the .Sherman anti-trust act, the committees I have two other important matters to ! dispose of. These arc: i To draft a bill giving the interstate commerco commission supervision of the issuance of railroad securities. To determine upon terms of an amendment to the tentative trado rela-! rela-! tions bill, which would prohibit hold ing companies. Members of the house interstate commerce com-merce committee, headed by Representative Represent-ative Adamson of Georgia, already are at work on the railroad securities bill i and the senate committeo considered this subject todnv, Chairman Ncwlanda being authorized' to got togother all bills pending on the subject. Tho senator sena-tor said it was quite likely his committee commit-tee would consult with tho Adamson committee on tho matter in the near future. Subcommittees at Work. Subcommittees already were studying tho subject of holding companies ana their effect on the business of the country, ho added. Republican members mem-bers of the senate interstate commerce committee showed active interest in the trust bills todav and Senator Cummins of Iowa offered several amondments to the trade commission bill, which would extend its powers. Democratic members believe tho proposed trade commission should not bo granted any administrative administra-tive authority. Besides giving the trade commission authority to regulate the size of corporation's, cor-poration's, Senator Cummins 's proposed amendments would also empower it to "determine whether any person or corporation cor-poration is violating tho 'law with respect re-spect to sales below actual cost for the purpose of inflicting injury upon a competitor com-petitor and whether any corporation is violating the law with respect to the amount of its capitalization as compared com-pared with the value of its property.-'' |
