With the daily prospect of running into a Ijmlv of ore wifiicicntly high-BH high-BH f grade to warrant cxteusivo operations, tlw owners of tho Great Western prop-erty, prop-erty, above iJurhe, have a crew of men on "development work. Bcconily a body WKt of low-grad ore fort' foot throneh was cut bv the workmen in thu main tun-HB tun-HB nel. The ore does not nssay verj high, j ' although if the company had a mill it could bo worked at a profit, it is said. It is the opinion of the management that this body of low-grade ore is in-j in-j dicativu of a' much richer deposit in t tho vicinity, and with this belief drift-ing drift-ing on th vein is being rushed. The HI ' mineral tdrmatiou in tho Great "Western HR i has left tho ore in pipes or pockets, ac-H ac-H cording to the opiuion of thoso who are developing tho projierty, Tho pockets HI ' tvhich have beon cut into no far have- I,! been rich in metal and the last large j porkot encountered carried lead valnes to tho extent of 35 per cent, with an appreciable quantity of silver. This oro in being retained "on tho dump until more oro of a shipping grado can bo added to it for shipment. The property , lies in Canyon gulch, about two and i, a half miles cast of Burke. A largo S portion of tho issuod stook. is controlled bv Duloth capital. The stock is non-nsesablc, non-nsesablc, and tho development work hh if, done on subscriptions of the stock- Hi 9". holders. ) i Gets Ore With First Blast, a Though exploration work had beon A lonc on nil sides, and somo good show-t show-t ings found, it was only two days ago i that Thomas Roilly. who is in charge of ' the development work on the Silver L .Star property, near Mullan, put in a round of holes and uncovorcd tho bigs' big-s' treat lowing over made on tho claims. Tho strike was in tho naturo of a well- defined ledgo of nbout eight feet in width, and having over ctyrht inches of . good milling ore. Tho atnke was made J riractically on tho surface and tho one blast laid it bare. Considerable devel-J devel-J opment work haB been done on the property, and it has shown a promising formntfon, though no ore was found. Tho new discovery is on tho opposito side of the hill from whero tho larger part of the work has been done in the past- Tho strike was reported at a meeting of tho board of directors which was held hero la6t week, and it was immediately voted to turn all efforts to the new find, and a contract for oxton-sivo oxton-sivo development work has been loU From all indications, it is Btatod, ore in shipping quantities should be encountered encoun-tered within the next fifty feet of drift. The contract Is for drifting on the ledge. The delinquent salo was held at tho company's oflico last week, though littlo stock was placed on ualo, as by far tho larger number of stockholders had paid their assessments. The directors, direc-tors, following tho report of tho strike, declared another assessment of 2 mills for tho purposo of developing the striko. North Star to Develop. Plans for continuing work on the North Star property, which is located just this nido of the Monarch school, up tho Nine-milo canyon, are undor way, and it ia tho intention of tho management man-agement to put a crew of men to work early in tho spring. Tho company plans t to drift on tho rein, for some distance, and in caso ore ia not found, sinking will be begun. It is the belief of ofh-cials ofh-cials of the company that tha drift is I passing oror tho oro body, and if the sinking should bo started now ore would bo found at a littlo greater dopth, but tho management clings to tho hope that oro will be cut by continuing con-tinuing tho drift. The North Star is located near the Marsh mill and has a tramway across the road. Considerable development work has beon done, and in addition to several exploration tunnels tun-nels a long ono has been run which is about 400 fcot in length, gaining a depth of about II0O foot. Thero is a largo ledge, which is partially mineralized, mineral-ized, iron showing in tho formation. It is thought bv tho directors of the company com-pany that at tho timo tho formation waa" in tho courso of adjustment the ore body found in tho Black Cloud mino, which later was lost, was brokon, part of it being left, on tho Ulack Cloud property, whilo the other part was forced away and will bo found on the North Mtar property which is situated across the gulch. Laclede Taps Ledge. Encouraging reports and some interesting inter-esting samples of rock from tho faco of tho drift in tho Laclcdo mino wore brought in last week from tho property, prop-erty, where a number of mon arc at work on development. After passing through a barren zone the minerB are now brnuking into a quartzito lodge, tho mattor and indications for ore bo-iiijr bo-iiijr good. The 'faco of the drift is now about -000 fcot; from tho portal of the tunnel, about 800 feet of the work being be-ing crosscut. A depth of botwoon 600 and 700 feel, under tho surface ia obtained. ob-tained. During the summer about two feet, of milling ore waa encountered in the bottom of the drift and an inclined shaft was sunk on the footti'M about thirtv feet, but as the ore was on the hungmgwall, its extent was not known. Owing to the lack of facilities for sinking, sink-ing, the shaft waB temporarily abandoned aban-doned and tho drift was continued nn a matter of exploration. Sinking will probably bo resumed during tho coming summer. Big Tank Nearly Done. The new tank being built in connection connec-tion with the dotation process being installed in-stalled at tho Greon Hill-Cleveland property is almost completed. Tho tank ih being constructed under the personal direction of Goorgo Wyman, its inventor, in-ventor, and is a duplicato of those which aro in uso at tho Morning and Hercules mills. Tho now tank ib the latest improvement of tho process of separating- tho lead and zinc contonts of tho ore, and in the Green Jlill-Clovc-laud mill replaces anothor of Wyman 'a models, which was installed thero last spring. Tho first plant was practically an oxperimout, and although it was found to bo satisfactory in its function, func-tion, later ones of aimilar dosign which were put in at the Hercules mill wore not successful. Following the failure of tho tank at the Hercules. Wyraan worked at tho problem until he evolTed aomo changes in the original model and tho later developments of tho tank have been tested and found "fully ablo to meet tho requirements. Tho new tank nt tho Groen Hill-Cleveland mill will bo of fifty-ton capacity, tho samo as tho Horcules, and one-half tho sizo of the Morning mill tank. A continuance of tho drift in tho vein of tho Highball property near Borax Bo-rax is the plan of tho management. Work will start early in the spring. At the present timo thero is a 'tunnel about 120 feet in length, but it is not expected ex-pected the oro will bo cut within the next 100 feet. The ledgo Is particularly particu-larly promising and has good showings which, although novor assayed, are expected ex-pected to run high in silver. Thero is not enough of the metal in sight to pay for shipping, but tho indications aro decidedly encouraging. Tho property prop-erty is owned by local men. When the tunnel has progressed the 700 feet neccsenry to reach the ore, it will give a depth of between 650 and 700 fool. Tho ledge at tho faco of tho tunnel at tho prosout timo ia about twentv feet in width and contains considerable quartzite. i |
