Show AMATEUR RUNNER ACCEPTS CHALLENGE OF STANLEY T. C. B. Gibson, formerly a long-distance runner of the Spokane Y. M. C. A . al present a resident of Salt Lako. has accepted tho challenge of William Stanley, Stan-ley, the Marathon runner, for a five-mile race al the Sail Palace saucer track Stanley Issuod a sweeping challenge to any runner to meet him at any distance dis-tance over a mile. Ho said that to amateur ama-teur runners he would give a handicap of a quarter of a mile In five miles. Gibson Gib-son says ho Is an amateur and will meet Stanley, provided the latter gives him the announced handicap allowance. Gibson said he would not race for money, as ho does not wish to injure his amateur standing. ' However, ho will be glnd to meet Stanley in an exhibition race for flvo miles at any time the Marathon runner Is willing to set. |
