The I'lorida East Coast Automobile association is trying hard to get. the Vandcrbilt cup for I lie Ormond-baytona Beach course. .Major Arthur B. Foster, president of the association, arrived in New York lust week from Cleveland, and had a conference with W. J. Morgan at tho hitter's oflicej and later met cx-Prosi-dent Asa Paiuc, together with First Vice-President George F. Seining of Ohio, and the chairman of the race committee, Commodore A. 11. Allen of Daytona. A conference was had with some of the national heads of the racing rac-ing board of the American Automobile association and the Yanderbilt cup commission, com-mission, and it was learned from the latter that Florida stands a good chance of securing the greal annual road event. It is understood that if proper protection protec-tion in the guarding of the Long Island j course cannot be secured, the first chance will be given Florida to hold the race, and that thu chance will bo taken advantngo of its undoubted. Jt j was the opinion of the Florida pcoplo that the beach course with properly constructed land turns at, the onus of the course will be the proper thing, and it is predicted that all rccordti would be smashed if the races were given in Florida instead of on laug Island. |
