Show SCHOOL GARDEN A MARKED SUCCESS Ever since theS early spring the younger pupils of the Riverside school, of which Miss Etta Powers is principal, have been Interested in garden plots surrounding the school, on which they have spent much time before and after school fob several weeks. Not only have the grounds surrounding the building been improved, but the children chil-dren have been gaining practical expe rience In the raising of flowers and vegetables veg-etables nnd Incidentally learning botany in a way which they never could from the mere study of bcoks. Yesterday the pupils of the school sent to The Tribune a box containing a few of the results of their work. Included In-cluded in the box were fresh, crisp bunches of celery, tender radishes, onions, beans and peas. While none of the vegetables, with the exception of the radishes, had attained their full size, the quality of each attests the careful attention they have received at the hands of the children. In addition to the vegetables there were a number of varieties of flowers, Including pansies, marguorites, daisies and nasturtiums, all of good size and beautiful colors. The showing is altogether alto-gether a most creditable one and teachers teach-ers and pupils alike are deserving of much praise for the work they have done in demonstrating the practicability practicabil-ity of school gardens In this city. |
