Show HOW THE POLICE RAISED A BLOCKADE Those ill-natured persons who claim that the police force is of no benefit to the city should have been at the station sta-tion last night as the '"graveyard" shift went on duty. The wind had blown down the fence along the north side of. the new Y. M. C. A. building, obstructing the sidewalk. The shift, under command of Sergt. John Hempel, encountered the obstruction. "'Line up." commanded the sergeant. The men strung out along the edge of the fence. "Grab hold'." Twenty-four hands grasped the edge of the recumbent fence. "Heave I" The fence came Upright and toppled over on the lot, leaving a clear path for the crowd which had just begun to pour I out of the theater. , |
