Show TRAMP OF SOLDIERS HEARD ONCE MORE Special Rio Grande Train Brings Col. Lockwood's Troops to Fort Douglas. ' ' ) SALT LAKE citizens were aroused early this morning by the steady tramp of Uncle Sam's soldiers. A special train cot in on the Rio Grande from San Francisco with the j Twenty-ninth regiment of infantry, under un-der the command of Col. Lockwood, at 'J o'clock. The regiment lias been stationed sta-tioned at the Presidio.' Five of the seven companies .that arrived ar-rived will bo stationed at Fort Douglas. Doug-las. Companies I and K are bound for Price, whence they have a ninety-mile march to Fort Duchesne before them. It Is expected, however, that their departure de-parture will be postponed until after Decoration day, as the G. A. R. men are very anxMous to have the whole seven companies in the parade. Tn I company, which Is under Iho command of Capt. Woodward, is Lieut. W. II. Point, formerly of this city. He is a brother of Arthur Mt Point, the chief clerk of the Wilson hotel, and has not been seen by his family since he left here for West Point, so that the arrival ar-rival of the regiment will be the occasion occa-sion of a joyful family meeting. The first battalinn of ihe regiment Is on its way for El Paso, Tpx. Part of It is to be stationed at Fort Bliss, two companies being bound for Apache and Huachuca. Capt. Bryant II. Wells, brother of Gov. Wells, is nlso a member .of this troop who will bo warmly welcomed to Salt Lake. |
