Show Dog Hunts Money in Streets of City Los Angeles Canine Who Has Made Collection of Coins Pound in Gutters 1 LOS ANGELES. Cal., May 24. Slowly, Slow-ly, but surely, Fremont, an aristocratic aris-tocratic dachshund owned by Dr. John Van Vleck of this city, promises to bring, a small fortune to his owner. The dog has acquired the money-hunting- habit, and has been thus far rewarded in his searches with remarkable success, having deposited at his master's feet in the aggregate $30.17, which was found In the streets and gutters of this city. This amount of 'money was deposited In a bank as a fund with which to buy Fremont an appropriate monument when he dies. , This dog has extraordinary, scent for finding coins, -which he invariably brings to his master, refusing to deliver de-liver any currency which he happens to find to a stranger. The habit has developed Into a craze with the canine, but he will not refuse to pick up and carry to Dr. Van Vleck any valuable articles of cold or silver which have been lost, thus being the medium by which various articles of greater or less value have been restored to the owners. Though money always comes first in the 'dog's estimation, anything bright will attract his attention, nnd the doctor doc-tor has a queer collection of things that Fremont has nosed out of dirt or refuse of the gutter and brought, with wagging wag-ging tall, for his master's inspection. Not long ago the dog came tearing madly along after him gripping in his teeth something yellow and shining. It turned out to be a heavy gold' garter buckle. |
