Show Last year, in spite of the troubles in the iron trade which during the last quarter curtailed production materially, thla country made nineteen million tons of pig Iron. The Industry has not recovered re-covered by any means from its prostration prostra-tion last year, but was getting on with fair prospects until tho strike on the steamer lines on the lakes put the trade all at sea again. It is iow said that the production this- year will not be over fourteen million tons, which, is an enormous shrinkage; probably it won't be so much. But at fourteen million tons, the combined iron production of Germany and Great Britain will probably prob-ably exceed that of this country, for the first time In four years. |
