Show I < > < > < > < > < > O < XX > QOOO < K > O i OGDEN SOCIETY IX I I < < > < X > The Salt Lake Opera company came to Ogden Monday night with a crowd of enthusiastic friends the occasion being be-ing the presentation of The Chimes of Normandy in the Grand opera house This company is one of Ogdens favorites favor-ites but from this on it will doubtless be more so for the work Monday night is pronounced on all sides as the best done by the company This im prucment was not confined to those cast in principal parts but was also noticeable in the work of the chorus The members worked well together there was precision of movement and yet grace and ease that is often absent from traveling companies ranked among the frst As Serpolette Miss Savage scored a distinct success Her stage presence was remarkably easy and her voice was praised alike for its strength and its sweetness Much the same might said of Miss Sallie Fisher only in speaking of her vocal work people generally mention men-tion sweetness before strength There was a bit of shyness in her manner but people could not tell if it were real or assumed as it comported well with the character of Germaine H S Goddard though undoubtedly handsome and of fine presence is hardly hard-ly built on the plan of the ordinary handsome dashing young lover but the audience never thought of that while listening to his rich bass voice As Hasnard the miser Mr J D Spencer made a distinct hit as an actor He was called before the curtain after his ani cent portrayal of the misers frenzy in the second act George Pypers mellow tenor voice in the was heard to good advantage par of Jean Greencbeux and his solos were in great demand As the Boillie Alex Campbell was seen and heard often enough to make the audience wish to see him oftener Frank Foster vUll be > long remembered by reason of I iis inimitably droll work as the Notary and when he appears in Ogden again he must not be surprised if he is greeted greet-ed with the cry Salute Miss Edmunds was cast in a part of minor importance in that there was 7ttle to say to sing or do but that ttle was well said suns and done 2n placing praise where praise is due the work of Weihes orchestra and of McClelland the accomplished pianist be overlooked should not 1 Mr Whitney and the company are to be congratulated > n the success of the new venture The Chimes of NormandY refreshment which was tully enjoyed Under the subject of Literature for Children Mrs Fletcher so ably led along the juvenile path that as she unfolded Shakespeare The Arabian Knights and like literature along with fairy tales as proper food for youthful minds enthusiasm kindled the many upturned faces She very beautifully showed that every child is heir to a throne and should be thoroughly
