| Show EARNINGS INCREASE I Utah Central Makes aVery Good i I Showing I 0 MR LOOMIS IS A HUSTLER RIO GRANDE WESTERNS O TON ON THIS LUTE Will Probably Be Taken Up Although n though It Is No Sure Thing New Pullmans For the B 0 TransContinental Trans-Continental Meeting Off Government Gov-ernment Wants Stay I Kansas Pacific Sale Other Railroad News I The earnings of the Utah Central railroad for tne last month increased rairoad 11St 120 per cent This showing on the part of the little road is said to be due in part to the excellent terminal facili ties the traffic arrangements with the connecting lines here especially the Rio Grande Western and the tireless work of Receiver Loomis and his assistant as-sistant Charlie Stanton who has proven himself to be a rustler in every respect Despite all that has been said in connection con-nection with the taking Up of the option op-tion on the road held by the Rio Grande Western i is by no means certain that it will be taken up although al-though the indications are in that direction di-rection at this time There Is a diversity di-versity of opinion as to the course of procedure between the receiver and the interests represented by Frank Pierce For instance there are 4000 in taxes to pay The Pierce interest contends mildly that the receiver does not have to pay these taxes but if the Western takes the road it can liquidate the same The receiyer is of the opinion that it is his duty to pay them so that i the Western does take up its option and become a purchaser i will have a clear title It is conceded that unless the Western West-ern does take up itsj option the road will have a hard row to hoe Either line is in a position to give it a black eye By simply refusing to make a traffic arrangement or permitting the line to make connections on the transfer trans-fer of freight the Central would be placed in 3 very awkward position by either the Short Line or the Western eiher and in the light of the decrease in shipments of ore from the Park the revenue would be slim indeed with the rate to Denver on ores made by the Union Pacific I the Western does take the road it is very likely that considerable repairing repair-ing and improvement will be done The question of whether a third rail can be laid so that standard gauge cars can be run on the road has been debated somewhat and it is agreed that with some changes this can be done I this plan is adopted ore shipments ship-ments could be made without transfer and a great deal of extra labor saved Of course the question n of standard < gauge locomotives bemff used is impracticable im-practicable The grades are too heavy the curves too shorthand the bridges shortand briges too light for anything of this sort Dec 20 is anxiously Awaited for that is the date when aptiop will be taken apt1vi |
