during the past week but on one evening at least as on Friday society so-ciety enjoyed a synchronism What with the Knutsford hop the brilliant german given by the younger set at Christensens and the bimonthly ball at Fort Douglas all occurring at the same time to say nothing of the usual cumber of smaller functions Friday evening the attention of the fashionables fashion-ables was sufficiently engaged The week as a whole simply emphasized empha-sized the fact that this season is to be the gayest Salt Lake has experienced experi-enced in years The activity is not a whit abated but rather on the increase in-crease In the immediate future is the ball to be given by the bachelors at Chris tcn ens which is set for Thursday of I this week and the card parties which will be given Monday and Thursday evenings by Mrs Harkness and the Misses HarknejP and the one Tuesday afternoon by Mrs Woodward Miss Voodward and Mrs Bidwell Then will come the holiday festivities with a yuletide ball followed by the St Marks ball on Jan 13 and perhaps an Alta club reception although the latter is merely hinted at as yet These are only a few landmarks scattered scat-tered ahead The intervening time is T well filled in already with large affairs f Dan Cupid too is active again and several brides are preparing to fly into I new nests Of the week just closed of course interest t in-terest centered in the Charity ball on Tuesday night but even that may be thrown into eclipse before the season is over The feature of the charity ball was of course the minuet and added vastly to the pleasure of the evening The stately movements were danced with perfect grace and the exquisite gowns of the ladies and rich costumes of the gentlemen left nothing wanting I Those who carried out the intricacies of
