Show HOT GAEVIE E AT PR VilA Vil-A and Crescent Teams Battle On the Gridiron PLAYED IN RAIN AND MUD SALT LAKE WONT BY A SCORE OF 14 TO 10 A Furious Game From Start to Finish I Excitement Han High and the Rooters Went Crazy Barker Disabled Dis-abled In the First HalfReturn Game to Be Played Provo Dec nThe hardest battle ever fought on the gridiron in Provo took place at the west square today A reputation preceded the Crescents who came down on the morning Oregon Short Line train and the talk about town was that the academy team would not be able to score a point The score of 14 to 10 in favor of the Crescents Cres-cents was something of a surprise Game was called at 2 oclock while the rain was drizzling down but the excitement was such that neither crowd nor players cared for the weather Provo secured the ball in the first half and it took them less than 15 minutes to make a touchdown with Hyde in possession of the sphere The excitement at this point was so great that it was impossible to keep the crowd back of the line for several minutes Hyde and Larsen were I cheered to the echo and the academy yell could be heard for several blocks Peterson tried an angular kick but failed During the remaining time of the first half the Crescents secured the ball and did some very clever work Barker who occupied the left end made some brilliant plays making the first touchdown for the Salt Lakers He was unfortunate however in receiving re-ceiving a wrench of the left leg and a I bunt on the stomach which laid him out in the beginning of the second half He had secured the ball and took a I spring for 25 yards when he was thrown across the side line by Le Fever His brother E Barker was put in his place At this point the cheering turned to Lallis who made some good runs and passes bringing the ball close to the end line I The academy boys showed a strong front but were forced over the line I with the ball in the hands of OBrien The Crescents were jubilant and were cheered for their clever work Salt Lake retained the ball after the kick which failed to score and began steady work for another touchdown which I the academy boys were unable to prevent pre-vent This time Shepard was in possession pos-session of the ball and OBrien made a successful kick Things looks bluef or the local team I when Shepard broke through tie line and sped fora touchdown but was tackled by Hughes who caught him on a 20iyard dash CRESCENTS SCORED AGAIN The boys with the blue and white now took the ball and gained 20 yards in three downs There were but six minutes to play and it looked as I though the score would remain 14 to 4 but a determination showed in Hydes face and the way he forced back his opponents brought on another wave of excitement with the crowd intruding upon the grounds There were four minutes to spare when Larsen broke through the Crescents ranks with the ball landing within four inches of the score line Talk about excitement Pandemonium Pandemon-ium was now let loose and the gang on the outside of the fence made themselves I them-selves hoarse A fight between two kids started up several blows being struck but the officers soon quelled the trouble and Hyde carried the ball I over the line Two more points were made on the kick and all was over The lineup of the teams was as follows fol-lows Academy Crescents Le Fever LE Barker Hall LT Offenbach Brown LGLymburg Judd V Co Anderson Emell R G Livingston Miller R T Fisher Cox R E Pears I Hughes Q BWhitehead I Hyde R H Laias Larsen LJI Shepard I Peterson F B OBrien SUBSTITUTES tfe J Hansen Nebeker Thorn Vigline Fillerup E Barker Referee Stanley line George Edwards Ed-wards umpire Stringfellow linemen E Schuler Mendenhall and Otterson During the game time was called at frequent intervals which resulted in the Salt Lakers losing the 5 oclock train and they were compelled to remain re-main over night The Crescents put up a hard game being strong and dextrous dex-trous as well as tricky A return game is to be played shortly at Salt Lake which will no doubt create a great amount of interest |
