Show F-16s To Take Part In Exercise HILL AFB Last weekend 130 maintenance and support people from the 388th Tactical Fighter Wing left Hill AFB bound for Egypt aboard two C-5s and a C-141. They joined nearly 1200 Tactical Air Command troops deployed to Egypt, Oman, Sudan and Somalia for the Bright Star '82 exercise. WING MAINTENANCE and support people started setting set-ting up their equipment in preparation pre-paration for the arrival of eight F-I6s from the 421st Tactical Fighter Squadron. Tuesday afternoon 12 F-I6s departed Hill AFB for Langley AFB, Va., where they stopped for the night. Eight F-16s continued con-tinued the trip to Egypt Wednesday. The F-16 departure from Hill AFB was preceeded by the Air Force's newest tanker and cargo aircraft, the KC-10. The fighters accompanied the tanker to Langley and on to Egypt. KC-10 EXTENDERS are modified McDonnell Douglas DC-10 aircraft designed to refuel re-fuel fighters at the same time they carry support equipment and personnel to overseas locations. Extenders can also refuel strategic transport air craft and reconnaissance aircraft air-craft during long-range missions. mis-sions. Upon completion of Bright Star '82 in mid-December, four of the 388th Tactical Fighter Wing F-16s will remain in Egypt to begin early training of Egyptian Air Force pilots. |
