Back, Mike Hassett, Jason Beck, Steve Evans, Clayton Hoffman, Mike Moffitt, Chris Austin. and Brad Mortenson won first place in novice debate, followed fol-lowed by Austin-Rogers, second place; Steve Evans and Jason Beck, third place; and Cole and Squire in fourth place. Jill Thor-nell Thor-nell won first place in legislative legisla-tive forum at this meet. At the Alta Invitational Debate De-bate Meet, Mike Barnett and Mike Moffitt placed second in advanced debate. Mindy Hansen Han-sen and Kimberly Wilcox were first place in novice debate, while Kari Chatlin, Ann Vance, Adam Cole, and Todd Squire received second place awards. Stacey Pexton won the fourth place speaker point award in advanced debate. AT THE Governor's Cup tournament, besides Austin and Rogers, Mike Hassett won fifth place in the Lincoln Douglas Doug-las debate while Stacey Pexton placed third in the same event. Lori Billings and Liz Welch won fifth place in junior varsity debate. At the Pow Wow debate tournament. Steve Houghton i Bountiful High School speech students have begun another successful season of competition. At both the Portia Por-tia Douglas speech tournament tourna-ment and the Skyview debate tournament, Bountiful students stu-dents won the sweepstakes award out of the 10 to 15 schools present at each toruna-ment. toruna-ment. Bountiful speech department de-partment members won the state 3-A championship last year. A NUMBER of students have been particularly successful suc-cessful in the competition. At the first tournament of the year, the Portia Douglas tournament tour-nament in Ogden, Brooks Glenn of Bountiful won first place in interpretation competition; com-petition; Juliann Gillette was third place in the same category. In oratory, Angie Franklin placed first while Alisha Hartley Hart-ley placed third. Mike Moffitt and Mike Hassett tied for third place in Lincoln Douglas debate de-bate competition. Mike Milne was second place in legislative forum for beginning students. AT THE Skyview debate tournament, Chris Austin and Vern Rogers won second place in novice debate. They repeated repe-ated this record at the Governor's Gov-ernor's Cup debate tournament tourna-ment as well as the Bountiful Pow Wow. Also at Skyview, Rob Habashi, Clayton Hoffman, Hoff-man, Jeri Hill and Michelle Kinnear tied for third place in |
