Show Bountiful Council Sets Hearing, Tax Discussion BOUNTIFUL Two public hearings and important impor-tant consideration to be given on a proposed sales tax redistribution proposal will be discussed by the Bountiful City Council next Wednesday (Dec. 9) at city hall. 1 THE FIRST public hearing, set for 7:30 p.m., will be to discuss rezoning of about 10.5 acres of the Call property located north of Pages Lane on the Frontage Fron-tage Road to Interstate Highway 15. The proposal, instigated by Air Products and Chemicals Che-micals Inc., of Pennsylvania, asks for rezoning from Residential-3 to Manufacturing-2 the property for future development of an air products plant. THE COUNCIL, by a 4-0 vote, had previously approved the new manufacturing ordinance in the city. Wednesday's action will be to specifically designate de-signate the site on the Bountiful-Centerville line for future construction of an industrial plant. Following this hearing, at approximately 8 p.m., another public hearing will be held to discuss a proposal prop-osal to consolidate through non-conforming use of video games now being used in Colonial Square to be allowed in an existing video game center in the 5-Points 5-Points Shopping Mall. THE PRESENT city ordinance restricts new businesses to a maximum of four electronic games in any establishment. The sales tax redistribution question deals with a proposal being considered by the council to support other cities and the Utah League of Cities and Towns for a change in the distribution of sales tax collected by the state. THE PROPOSAL seeks a revision by the State Legislature that would allow cities to impose an additional addi-tional one-quarter percent optional sales tax. The proposal also seeks to change the method of distribution distribu-tion from the point collection (sale) to a form based on population. The latter proposal would be phased in over a five year period. |
