Show Report Says Cities Need More Police Davis County communities are "understaffed" with police officers according to a survey from the 1981 edition of Uniformed Crime Reports prepared by the U.S. Department of Justice and Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI). ACCORDING TO the national average, there are 2.4 police officers per 1,000 population in cities of less than 10,000, and 2.1 officers per 1,000 population popula-tion in cities of 10,000 to 100,000, the report showed. But in Davis County, the 12 communities offering their own police protection are far below the national average ranging from .42 officer per 1 ,000 population in Farmington to a high of 1.64 officers per 1,000 residents in Woods Cross. FARMINGTON has only two fulltime officers for a population of 4,692, for an average of .42 officer per 1,000 persons. Other cities of less than one officer per 1,000 population are Syracuse, .81; Layton .96; and Kaysville .92. Sunset and Clinton both have 1.04 per 1,000; Bountiful is 1.06; West Bountiful, 1.19; and North Salt Lake, 1.42 according to the report. |
