Show Viewmont Swim Team By DAVE WIGHAM BOUNTIFUL Although they are off to their best start in six years in dual meets, Viewmont View-mont swimming coach Casey Jackson still points to two other schools as the favorites in the boys division. THUS FAR, the Viking boys have posted a 4-1 record with wins over Orem, Mountain View, Clearfield and Roy. Their only blemish of the sea-ton sea-ton is a loss to a strong Cottonwood Cotton-wood team. LEADING THE parade of talented swimmers this year at Viewmont is senior captain Robert Schmid. As a junior last year Robert placed tenth in the state meet in the 100 yard backstroke event and is back to improve on that finish this season. Other seniors Coach Jackson Jack-son is counting on include Ed Goble, Greg Hadley, Ken Hawkes, Troy Hess, Dave Williams, Doug McCleary, Sebastian VonWall and Mikael Olofson. Mikael is the foreign exchange student at both the 200 yard individual medley race and the 500 yard freestyle setting new state records re-cords in both events. SENIOR CHERYL Rosen-green Rosen-green is also back after placing second in the state 100 yard backstroke race and sixth in the 100 yard butterfly race. Kia Fadel is returning after finishing finish-ing sevenih in the 100 yard , backstroke and 12th in the 100 yard breaststroke. Also back is Julie Smith, 13th in the 500 freestyle and 18th in the 200 freestyle, and Merille Davis who placed 16th in the state 50-yard freestyle sprint. THE LAST two years these gals have placed first in region and third in state and optimism is high this year for a better showing in state. Kathy Harbin, Melodee Squire, Becky Stokely and Shawnee Ynchausty are four more seniors who will be counted on heavily this year. Juniors on the team include Beverly Albrechsten, Donna Irvine and Rebecca LeChemi-nant. LeChemi-nant. Sophomores on the side are Tiffny Almond, Kris Fadel, Becky Blauer, Julie Guff, Denise Moosman and Millie Phelps. THE GIRLS swimming team is rated as a co-favorite with East for the region title by most of the coaches, including the Vike coach. "East has a strong club but I think we can compete with them." Thus far,' the Viking women have won four dual meets against Orem, Mt. View, Clearfield and Roy, while losing los-ing to the two time defending state champions from Cottonwood. Cotton-wood.
