Show V f I ilJ WIN SENIOR DANCE Kim Krohn, left, and Barry Hagan, Los Angeles, Calif., won the Senior Sen-ior Dance division of the Pacific Coast Figure Skating Championships which were completed last weekend at the Bountiful Ice Rink. It was an almost miracle comeback for Barry who was seriously injured last summer when run down by a car in a shopping mall parking lot and doctors felt he would never skate again. Krolin and Barry Hagan. Barry was injured severly about six months ago when he was working as a guard at a shopping center. He saw a woman shoplifting, he had just escorted her to her car when she ran him down, hurling him through a plate glass window. At first the doctors felt he may never walk again, much less skate again. He and his partner gave a thrilling performance Saturday night. SECOND PLACE went to Susan Wynne of Philadelphia and Joseph Pruar, Seattle, Wash.; third place was captured cap-tured by Karen Knierium, Colorado Col-orado Spings, Colo., and Phillip Phil-lip Piasecki, Santa Monica, Calif. There were other winners in the intermediate, novice and junior classes. Philip and Linda Lin-da Kennedy placed 8th in the junior pairs. THERE WERE 150 competitors com-petitors from II western states, plus coaches, family and friends. Most of them stayed over to enjoy the snow and skiing in the mountains. Temple Square and other local sites. The events went very smoothly and the Utah club is very proud of its achievement. The community was very supportive sup-portive of this event. The most often heard compliment to this area was the "everyone is so friendly, we have never been treated so well." Many of them were taken on tours by the hosting committee for the LDS Church. THE UTAH Figure Skating Club will make a bid for the 1984 United States Figure Skating Association Championships. Cham-pionships. The other two cities making a bid for this event will be Berkely, Calif, and Reno, Nev. 1984 is an Olympic year and it would be a great thrill and honor for the people of Utah to see the U.S. Olympic Team to be choosen here. It would be held in the Salt Palace for free style events and the Bountiful Ice Arena for the figure events. This writer feels that Berkley and Reno do not have a chance. |
