Show Vikings Views By TKARSA NELSON SCOTT FOWLER This week at Viewmont is "Vibrant Viking" week. It is sponsored and setup by PTA President Eula Price and Saun-dra Saun-dra Hansen, student representative. represen-tative. ON MONDAY the students attended three different classes clas-ses that lasted an hour each. These classes took the place of the first three periods. The students stu-dents were able to choose which speakers they wanted to hear from a list of ten names and topics. Some of the speakers speak-ers were Dave Mickl, Coach Jerry Primme from the U. of U., Paulette Barker who is a beautician, and Com. Ernest Eberhard from Davis County who is also a author. Some of the topics covered by the different speakers were money management, parent and youth communication, self-esteem and life after high school. All of the speakers were well qualified in their areas. ON WEDNESDAY, Jan Smith, a coach from Morgan High School who is paralyzed, came and talked on his life. The assembly was held in the gym and after Coach Smith had finished speaking, a team he had brought with him played play-ed in wheelchairs. The week proved to be a great experience experi-ence for all concerned. Also on Wednesday, Russell Rus-sell Boyd, the 1980 Mr. America, Amer-ica, and Monica Lemon, an aerobic dance instructor, came and talked to the health and PE classes throughout the day. All the students were encouraged en-couraged to run a mile on the track that day. THE MAIN purpose behind "Vibrant Viking" week is to help the students gain some insight in-sight and knowledge to help them improve themselves. The topics and speakers were selected with that in mind. We feel this week has been a tremendous success so far and would like to thank the PTA for doing an outstanding job. To finish out the week, On Wednesday the debate team has their legislative forum and also the Lincoln Douglas debate de-bate at Viewmont. THIS WEEK our girls basketball bas-ketball team is going to state. We would like to wish them well. |
