Show Honored By Rotarians The Bountiful Rotary Club recently honored S. Lloyd Riley at a special dinner and program. Mr. Riley is a native of Bountiful and prominent member of the community. THE PROGRAM was M.C.'d by Stan Layton which featured several speakers who told of Mr. Riley's life and accomplishments. Mr. Riley joined the Rotary Club in 1949 and was the first member inducted after the charter members. He has held many offices in the club including includ-ing secretary for two terms; presdient 1959-1960, and historian his-torian for three years. SPEAKERS included Mrs. Claudine Riley, his daughter, Karen Ford, and sister, Marr Campbell and Arnold Barnett. Karen read and commented on interesting excerpts from his life's history and also read a i H S. LLOYD RILEY tribute she had written to her father. Mrs. Riley told several humorous experiences Mr. Riley had in his work as a life insurance salesman, such as sitting on a needle in the home of one of his clients, and the lady laughingly said, "Good, I'm sure glad you found my needle I've hunted all day for it." And another experience where he knocked at the door of a policy holder and a clear and loud voices said "Come in,' it turned out to be the family fami-ly parrot. Mrs. Riley also read tributes to their father from their four children in California. Cali-fornia. MRS. RILEY said the greatest gift in life is the gift of friendship and this certainly applies to Mr. Riley. To have friends is to be a friend. His love, kindness and honesty toward to-ward his fellow men throughout through-out his life has recognized him as a citizen who gave of his time and talent to do service for his community and friends. Mr. Riley has watched this city grow from horse drawn wagons and a little farming community to what we have now "Bountiful the city of beautiful homes." MRS. CAMPBELL told of childhood experiences and the love and respect she has for her brother. Mr. Barnett spoke of some of Mr. Rileys accomplishments. accom-plishments. He was city recorder recor-der for three terms, mayor, state senator, bishop, power commissioner and chairman of the Golden Years Board of Directors. Musical numbers included the group singing "Have 1 Done Any Good in the World Today" and a vocal duet "How Great I Am" by Mr. and Mrs. George Catmul. As a climax cli-max to the evening Mr. Riley read a humorus poem. MR. RILEY was given a standing ovation by Rotary Club members. |
