He said students from the Davis Vocational Center in Kaysville have been called in, on occasion, to work on repairs, re-pairs, but said he needs a full-time full-time handiman to cover the building. ALTHOUGH the jail is less than six months old, Sheriff Johnson said the staff "is spending a great deal of time on maintenance." Sheriff Johnson asked the commission to tell him whose responsibility it is to provide maintenace for the facility. "IT'S JUST overpowering us," he said, "and I don't know what the situation is." He said he would like to see the county hire someone to do maintenance and cleaning on a regular basis. Hiring a handiman handim-an to cover all the problems is a good idea, the sheriff told commissioners, com-missioners, but said those kind of people "are kind of scarce. COM. CHAIRMAN Ernest Eberhard supported the idea of contracting out with a maintenance mainte-nance man and Sheriff Johnson John-son explained that some companies com-panies work on a month-by-month basis. "WE'RE WASTING a lot of money," he told commissioners, commission-ers, adding that .the county shops cannot accommodate the number of repairs that come in. "We need a quick solution to this," he said. DEPUTY HARRY Jones said the department has to either wait two to three weeks for the cars, or send them to an area auto dealer where repair charges are much higher. (i Com. Glen Saunders said 'there are not too many days" when the county shops are used to "full capacity." He suggested the possibility of adding another man who would take care of Sheriffs Department vehicles on a continuing con-tinuing basis. "YOU NEED your vehicles fully operational," Com. Eberhard said. "You can't afford to have them go out on you." Com. Saunders was appointed by the commission to look into the problem. |
