Show Ilerbic returns "Herbie, the Love Bug" and "Baker's Dozen," two limited series, will join the CBS prime time schedule. "Herbie, the Love Bug" premieres Wednesday, March 17, starring Dean Jones, who is reunited with Herbie, the Volkswagon, in a comedy series based on the Walt Dis; ney films. The comedy stars Ron Silver and Cindy Weintraub as a pair of undercover New York cops who are romantically involved. Doris Belack is Capt. Baker, the feisty woman commander of the unit. The series, filmed on location in Manhattan, will be presented for six weeks. Crime special America spends over $25 billion a year fighting crime:, but the problem persists. Every two seconds, a serious crime is committed somewhere in America, according to "America's Battle Bat-tle With Crime," a one-hour television special narrated by journalist Tom Wicker. Yet only one criminal in five is arrested, and of those less than half are convicted. The program, which documents docu-ments the state of America's criminal justice system and explores various tactics against violent crime, is a "Capital Cities Special Report," and will be nationally national-ly syndicated from March 7 through 21. (Check local stations sta-tions for times and dates.) Musical specials PBS has two musical specials speci-als this week: On Wednesday, March 17, a musical documentary, "Lights! Camera! Annie! The Making of a Major Hollywood Musical" offers an inside look with songs, interviews and production numbers at life on the set of a big Hollywood musical. In three "acts," the special follows the discovery of 10-year-old Aileen Quinn, who plays the title role; looks at the filming of a full-scale production number; and pays tribute to life behind the cameras. On Thursday, March 18, "Down Home Country Music" stars Charlie Pride and Tammy Tam-my Wynette in a country music extravaganza featuring more than a score of top artists. The scheduled lineup includes Larry Gatlin, Mel Tillis, Lacy J. Dalton, Alabama, The Texas Playboys. Play-boys. Johnnv Lee. Steve Good man, Janie Fricke. Movie awards The American Movie Awards presentation of Marquee Mar-quee statuettes the only exclusive movie awards voted directly by theater-goers will air live on NBC, Monday, March 15. The awards, presented to winners in 10 categories, are sponsored by the National Association of Theatre owners (NATO). Nominations were made by vote of the 101-mem-ber NATO board, a group comprised of motion picture exhibitors from across the nation. To have been eligible, films must have commenced distribution distri-bution in the United States between Jan. 1 and Dec. 31, 1981. |
