The damage had been done though, and the Royals were forced to foul to try to catch up but this time the Bountiful side was ready and they kept the Royals at a safe distance. , IT WAS vintage Bountiful as they ; spread the scoring . around. Bell had 20, Weight .16, Brown 10, Matt Thornely , off the bench with 6 as was Todd Smith with Blake Izatt ad- ' i ding 4. I i . ! i ' This was the one battle that many felt would decide the championship since they were the top two ranked clubs in the state going into the tournament. Bountiful simply played better basketball in the first half, second period especially, to put the game out of reach. THEN WHEN the Royals tried to foul for profit, the Braves hit 17 of 23 attempts from the foul line in the fourth period. ... , . . . Coach Hall of Bountiful explained the difference in the; third and fourth quarters. "They were trapping us near mid-' court with three guys. That meant they only had two under their basket. In the third period we didn't attack it at all. I told them to make sure the first pass went behind their trap and then to attack the basket. We did it in the fourth period and either got the basket or drew the foul." . IT WAS a little sweet revenge for some of the Bountiful players, to be exact Todd Smith and Matt Thornley. Both these guys were members of the football team that lost to Roy in the state finals in November. The win sends Bountiful into the title game against Skyline, a club they knocked off in preseason. |
