Show Spring Sprues Up Approved For Jail By MARK D. MICKELSEN FARMINGTON Spring fever is catching on at the new Davis County jail. AND THAT means a little "tidying up" for the snow-drenched grounds. Sheriff Brant Johnson met with county commissioners last week to finalize landscaping land-scaping plans for the facility and to set a date for a bid opening on the project. LANDSCAPE drawings for the building have been completed, he said, adding that the total project cost will be close to $10,000. Included in the project are plans for a sprinkling system, which officials said will account for a large portion of the landscape budget. COM. CHAIRMAN Ernest Eberhard, in an attempt to save the county some money, asked if any jail inmates would be put to work on the project. Sheriff Johnson said he may be able to get some "menial" labor out of the prison ers, but advised the commission against planning on it. SPECIFICATIONS for the landscape project will be turned over to County Clerk Rod Walker who, in turn, will set up a bid opening date for work. In a related matter, Sheriff lohnson asked to board to consider nominations for a new member of the Sheriffs Merit System Sys-tem Commission. He said the position held by long-time member Milt Hodges will be vacated April 2. Mr. Hodges is retiring from the commission. THE SHERIFF al so recommended the reappointment of Harold Pope to the commission. com-mission. Mr. Pope's term also expires April 2. The only remaining member of the commission, com-mission, Wesley Jarvis, has two more years of service. SHERIFF Johnson encouraged the commission com-mission to look at geographical areas of the county when choosing a new member of the merit commission. He said he has several sev-eral qualified candidates in mind. |
