Show Board Of Education Asks ! Superintendent Welling To ! Follow Certain Guidelines :. . " FARMINGTON The : Davis County Board of Educa- tion has asked its new superin- ' tendent to follow certain : guidelines, including "open and candid communication" with community and school ;. ' staff. IN NAMING former Deputy Supt. Lawrence Welling of ': - - Kaysville as chief of the state's : third largest district, the five member body issued a policy statement concerning relation- :. ships between the board and superintendent. The statement stresses importance im-portance of "open and candid communication with each other, the school staff and community" and says that "the superintendent must be able to disclose everything to the board, to outline problems and their causes, to engage in open discussion with the board about these problems, to recommend re-commend solutions and to live by final board policy on these matters." IN AFFIRMING intended adherence to that policy the 54-yeat-old school chief said. "I am in complete agreement and am fully committed to open administration and public pub-lic involvement." Noting the district faces problems it hasn"t before. Dr. Welling continued. con-tinued. "To deal with those problems we must all work together in order to continue providing the best education possible for our young people. We continue to be committed to excellence in education."
