Show TJTA Hikes Far! Increased fares on the Utah Transit Authority buses between be-tween Salt Lake City and Ogden have caused some protesting pro-testing and boycotting among the regular passengers. LEWIS V. Hargis, manager of the northern Utah Office of UTA, said customer remarks over the increased fares were mixed, and that there was definitely defi-nitely a drop of regular passengers passen-gers on routes to and from Hill Air Force Base. Fares were considerably increased in-creased in some cases doubled dou-bled effective last Friday. NEW RATES include oneway one-way fares. 30 cents: senior citizens and handicapped. 15 cents: monthly passes for older old-er persons and handicapped. $6:,Veiilti"' rndnfhly' p'as's'e'S' .-AIM $10: student passes (with proper prop-er identification). $7: passes for workers on "subscription" commuter or express routes. $18: and express route from Salt Lake City to Ogden, 90 cents one way. "Subscription" rates jumped to $1 a day and this brought protests, in the way of boycotting, from some 200 civilian employees at Hill AFB. UTA OFFICIALS said customers cus-tomers of other routes also complained about the rate hikes and afternoon service. "We expected some opposition opposi-tion to the new rate schedule." said John'M. Inglish. transit development director. "But the price of a fare anywhere on the UTA is still low when com- pared to what ii drive." |
