Show liii liifi 13 Is Jiiii Imp FARMINCTON - The Davis County Library has opted not to renew membership member-ship with the Utah Library Association because ot a censure cen-sure it received from that body-last body-last year. THE CENSURE by that state body including members from libraries throughout the state was made because of action ac-tion taken by the Dav is County Library Board during 1979 relating re-lating to freedom to read and protection of citizens' right to have access to information in a free society. The attempted removal of the novel "Americana"' by at least one board member early last year also led to a study hv the intellectual freedom committee com-mittee of the ULA. COUNTY Library Board Chairman Evan W hitesides said he w as "concerned we not join the ULA as a board or as trustees until the ULA gives some consideration to its censure. cen-sure. I still don't understand w hy the censure. But he said individual library lib-rary staffers could join the association. AGREEING THE board should not join was County Comm. Morns Swapp. sav ing that to join would be "just like being kicked in the teeth and then turning around to pav for it." ULA Pres. Dennis Day. who also serves as Salt Lake City Public Library director-, said of the action in ' I c - phone interview. "I don't think it's appropriate to make a comment about the action of the board.
