Show Students At Monte : Vista Writes Letters 1 To Shut-In In Btfl. These students, 17 and 18 years of age, from Monte Vista J School in Farmington, have ; been writing letters to Ruth Haw kins of Bountiful. The let-., , -, J ters cheer Mrs. Hawkins, who felt some weeks ago, breaking z a hip and an arm. 3 IT IS A pleasure for them to ; meet Mrs. Hawkins after send- 3 ing her greetings and best 3 w ishes for some time. As she is ; recuperating, the letters help 3 to pass the long days in a : pleasant way, knowing that 3 they are concerned about her 3 health while she is home- r. bound. 3 Abel Scribner has written in i one of his letters. "I am sorn ; that you are sick. 1 hope that 3 you get better soon. Do you r. have a motercicle at your 3 house? I have a motercicle."' 3 LISA EDDARDS wrote. '1 3 have three dogs and one turtle, r When are you going to come ; down to see us?" 3 To quote Toni Hanson. "1 7. am sad that you are sick, I 3 hope you get better soon. ; sometimes 1 get sick myself 3 also. 1 got a cat and a dog. my : cat is in Denver. Colo, and my 3 dog is w ith me and my mom." THESE STUDENTS have also written letters to the hostages hos-tages in Iran, their teacher. Coy Langston has explained. Marilyn Young wrote: to them about her parents and the activities in school and that she plays the piano. TONI HANSON wrote a newsy letter, hoping that the hostages would be home for Christmas. Again Abel Scribner Scrib-ner told about the Christmas program, "You Light Up My Life" which was the theme and asking the hostages to come visit their school. Marilyn Young had a fine letter about activities, programs prog-rams at the school and how she likes to sew and cook and to play with their Lamonite student. stu-dent. COY LANGSTON teaches basic math and English to the 17 and 18 year old students at the school. Mr. Langston of Bountiful, has a BS degree in mental retardation re-tardation from BYU and taught a special education class in Ogden for a year. Later he taught at the Stoker School in Bountiful, in the self contained con-tained intellectually handicap- ped class, which included Abel Scribner, Debbie Hoppe and Rolf Reader. He came to the Monte Vista School in September Sep-tember 1979. again taking the class of self contained students. stu-dents. MR. LANGSTON said, "The students have really improved im-proved in reading skills and in their handwriting, during the year." Mrs. Hawkins is a native of Missouri and moved to Bountiful Bounti-ful some time ago. She spent two years in the Orient while in the United States Army as a budget analyst and came to Utah after her retirement, kj |
