Show High-Risk Insurance Approved For Deputies FARM1NGTON An additional "high-risk insurance" insur-ance" providing $500,000 liability lia-bility for each Davis County sheriff deputy has been approved by the Davis County Commission. SHERIFF Brant Johnson told the county commission that the insurance, endorsed by the National Sheriff s Association Asso-ciation Insurance Company, is necessary because of the high-risk high-risk profession of law enforcement enforce-ment and jail procedures. "We are vulnerable for large law suits by the nature of our work." said Sheriff Johnson. "And since county officials are often included in law suits against county law enforcement enforce-ment officers, it is possible for the commissioners to be included in-cluded in the insurance coverage." cov-erage." HE NOTED that the $11,498 annual premium, to include the county commissioners, would be $708 less than the county is presently paying for liability -insurance. He added that Davis County would be the ninth law enforcement agency in the state to have this high-risk high-risk insurance. Comm. Ernest Eberhard made the motion to approve the insurance adding, "In this day of law suits being filed for no reason at all. 1 think it's a good idea that we have this additional liability insurance." |
