Show How To Distinguish Hot And Cold Fronts Can you tell by the nature of winter rainfall whether a cold or warm front is passing in above you? YES. THERE are clues w hich will enable you to know most of the time, whether winter win-ter rain is being caused by a cold or warm front. If the rain is hard and comes on suddenly and wind indicates indi-cates a fast-moving front, chances are excellent that a cold front is moving over you. THESE FRONTS move faster, fas-ter, the leading (precipitation) edge passes above in less time and cold, clear weather usually follows. If the rain is steady and dull and lasts a day or more, with winds moderate or almost nonexistent, non-existent, a warm front is probably prob-ably passing in above you. THIS MEANS several hundred hun-dred miles of stratus cloud, and a lengthy spell of moisture, quite probably. |
