VERNAL POLICE caution motorists about stopping stop-ping for flashing red lights as students board school buses. Police have noticed problems in the area with motorists not stopping. Motorists cautioned on passing buses Motorists not yielding or stopping for school buses has recently become a problem pro-blem in the Vernal area, reported Vernal Ver-nal City Police Officers. The state law says that the driver of any vehicle upon meeting or overtaking any school bus flashing amber warning lights shall slow his vehicle but may proceed past the bus using care and caution for the safety of the school children in the vicinity. When a school bus is displaying alternating alter-nating flashing red lights all ap- proaching or overtaking vehicles shall stop immediately before reaching said school bus and not proceed until the lights cease operation. The driver of a vehicle upon a divided highway separated by a painted median me-dian in excess of 12 feet in width need not stop upon meeting or passing a school bus which is upon the other roadway, road-way, reads the traffic law. Police officers advised persons in the area to be aware of the laws dealing with school buses. |
