Show Enid Hatch I Phone 789-3150 I V Maeser Elementary release balloons, hope for $500 Maeser Elementary School students enjoyed releasing 800 helium filled balloons on March 27, into the air in hopes that the balloons will bring $500 back to the school. The balloon release is part of a national na-tional contest sponsored by "Weekly Reader", an elementary publication used us-ed in most public school classrooms. The program will promote pen-pal programs throughout the United States during the school year to motivate students to correspond with students in other parts of the country. The students were instructed to attach at-tach a card to the balloon with their name, address, grade, school and date written on the it. Under the rules, the school that has the card returned from the farthest distance will win the $500. Only one entry en-try is sent from each school participating par-ticipating and must have the postmark of when the card was sent by the finder. Each student of Maeser eagerly participated in the competition, as they released their balloon into the air. The wind that day seemed to be moving in a northernly direction. The students are now eager for replies. Brent and Jana (Calder) Ross from Provo, visited over the weekend at the Joe Calder home. They are proud parents of a baby girl, Elizabeth. They wanted to show her to great grandparents, grand-parents, Mr. and Mrs. Alton Vernon and the rest of the family. Carolyn Cinnomon visited her parents in Denver, over the weekend. Miss Cinnamon is a sixth grade teacher at Maeser Elementary School and lives at Edna Raines' home. Jerry Hatch of Lehi called his parents, Boyd and Enid Hatch to tell them their 20th grandchild had arrived, March 27 at 5:30 a.m. A daughter weighing 8 lbs. and 12 ozs., 20 inches long. Jerry and his wife, Jean Ann (Trinneman) Hatch have three other children, Jessica, 6; Katie, 4; and Nathan Jeremiah nearly 3 years old. The other grandparents are Homer and Frances Trinnernan also of Lehi. Patricia Ensing made a trip to Salt LakegCity Saturday to take part in the reading workshop. They returned that evening. Shane Goodman from Colorado Springs, Spr-ings, Colorado, son of Jim Goodman is spending his spring vacation at the home of his grandparents, Barney and Leah Goodman. Lester Maxfield from Altonah was in Maeser last week visiting with friends and relatives. He was here to attend the funeral of Reba Timothy. David and Geraldine White and children were visitors to Salt Lake City with David's parents, Murray and Lucille White. David Bowled with the Maverick team in Ogden at Rainbow Gardens. Mrs. Carl Richens is at home again after spending the winter with her daughter and son-in-law, Louis and Beulah Merl (Richens) Zuldo in Mesa, Arizona. Her son, Clifton Richens, who lives in Roy, and works at Hill Field, met his mother at the Salt Lake airport and brought her home. Ralph McConkie, the husband of Barbara Bar-bara McConkie, Mar Caldwell, wife of Wallace Caldwell are patients at the Uintah County Hospital. Mrs. Lynenten (Eleanor) Scott, Craig and Marilyn from Trinity Center, California came to spend a week's spring spr-ing vacation with Grand and Mildred Hacking, the Berkley Halls and the Bill Beesleys. Jim and Jacky Jenkins and family have moved back from Soda Springs, Idaho. They will be living with Mr. and Mrs. Alvin Gardiner in Ashley. The Gardiners are Jacky's parents. They plan to move into the old home where the Jim Oviatt family live after the Oviatt's move to their new home in Vernal, Ver-nal, then build them a new home this fall. Carol Jean Wiley from Denver spent a few days visiting her mother, Vera Hacking, Mureal Hacking and family. H. Charles Palmer is visiting his brother, Mr. and Mrs. Lamar Palmer and sister, Willis and Jane Allred in Pocatello, Idaho. They all will travel to Vaile, Oregon to visit another brother, Mr. and Mrs. Lawrence Palmer. Mr. Bill Beesley from Draper, visited the Grant Hacking family over the weekend. The family of Arvid and Oral Merkley held a surprise party at Ned and Connie Cook's home in Davis, March 28, to celebrate Oral's birthday and their 40th wedding anniversary. Attending were Tad and Theran Merkley, Terry and Alene Barker, Denzel and Irene Adams, Lynn White, Shirley and Delmar Watkins, Ned and Connie Cook. Arvid and Oral Merkley moved there daughter, Jean, to Salt I-ake City last weekend where she has new employment. employ-ment. Maeser Second Ward Relief Society held their annual anniversary parly March 27 in the cultural hall of the Maeser Stake Center. Stake guests were Mr. and Mrs. Garth Batty, Mr. and Mrs. Claude Rupe, Jean Oaks and Mr. and Mrs. Rodney Perry, the Relief Society sisters and their husbands. They honored the past Relief Society presidents of Maeser Second Ward. Bertha Richards, Louisa Hacking, Masie Sinfield (now deceased), Clara Jenkins, Maxine Gardner, Laura Hacking Hack-ing and present president, Dana Dee Smith. New residents in Maeser are Milt and Florence Wooly, living at the Collett trailer lot. Mr. and Mrs. Randy (Meldoy) Yeager are parents of a son, born at the Duchesne hospital in Roosevelt. He weighed 8 lbs. 14 ozs., 22 inches long and will be named Chad Michael. Grandparents Grand-parents are Harry and Barbara Pippin and Raymond and Dorothy Yeager both of Keensburg, Co. Great grandparents, Mr. and Mrs. Sam Yeager of Keensburg, Co., Ethel Ganett of Greeley, Co, Etta Sirios of Keensburg, Co., Mildred Swain of Hirlingan, Taxas. Gary and Amber Huber from Price spent the weekend with W.L. Tullis. Mr. and Mrs. Card Mc Clellan from Provo were home visiting the Larry Abegglen family. Mimmie Morrill from Roosevell spent the weekend with the Rodney Perry family and the Larry Abegglen family. Lynn and Hetty Mecharn went to visit Lynn's uncle Roy Mecham in American Fork, Utah. Lee Angus from Roosevelt visited with the Lynn Angus family on Sunday, March 30. |
