Piins living along these lines should be ready to hook on to the new sewer system at $1,000 per connection. Persons wanting to hook onto the sewer system after it has been installed will be charged $1,500. "There will be a grace period allowed for people connecting to the first stage of the system," said Jack Stagg, Vernal City councilman. Property owners will also have to pay the cost of extending lines from their existing ex-isting sewer facility to their property lines. Members of the sewer board gave Councilman Jack Stagg credit for four years of "hard work" to form the sewer board and for working with other entities en-tities to form a system to serve the entire en-tire valley and replace the badly worn Vernal system. The sewer lagoon disposal plant will be built east of Ashley Creek at 1200 South, in the Buckskin Hills area. The plant will cost $9.1 million, will take two years to complete, and involve almost three miles of pipe, said Russ Vernon, project engineer. Because the lagoon type disposal plant is less mechanical, it will last up to 100 years with the addition of extra ponds, Vernon said. "The construction of a new sewer plant will be much cheaper than upgrading the old one." The board advises all people in the area to begin saving for the connection fee. Everyone within 300 feet of the lines are obligated to hook onto the system due to an EPA regulation. A grant of $6.8 million has been given by the EPA for the sewer project. |
